Plant Cell Organelles
Plant cells are slightly different from animal cells because they contain a few distinct organelles that are not found in animal cells. These organelles include the Cell Wall and the Chloroplast. Plant cells also contain a Central Vacuole (see Organelles with Membranes).
Cell Wall
Location: The Cell Wall is located outside of the cell membrane. It is the outer most layer of a plant cell.
Structure: The Cell Wall is a rigid covering composed of cellulose. It contains many small openings (pores).
Function: The Cell Wall forms the shape of the plant cell and helps provide structural support.

Chloroplast
Location: The Chloroplast is located in the cytoplasm of a plant cell.
Structure: The Chlorplast consists of a double membrane that surrounds many flattened sacks of Thylakoids. The Chloroplast also contains a green pigment called chlorophyll to help capture sunlight for use by the plant cell.
Function: The Chloroplast makes glucose (food) for the plant cell.
